Kasthall Celebrates Iconic Designer With Limited Edition Karusell Rug
Since 1889, Kasthall Design Studio has created unique and contemporary woven and hand-tufted floor rugs worldwide. They have an impressive historical archive from the early 1950s, containing samples and sketches created by well-known designers. This archive is a continual source of inspiration and knowledge for the design studio. Now, for one year only, Kasthall is resurrecting an archived design to pay tribute to one of their most pioneering designers, Ingrid Dessau.
Ingrid Dessau, Swedish textile artist, played a significant role in the history of Kasthall and was instrumental in shaping the company into what it is and represents today. To celebrate Dessau’s 100th birthday, Kasthall has chosen to recreate one of her iconic patterns from 1959, a rug called Karusell.
“It is a flatwoven wool rug. A flirt with history. An expression that elevates our woven rug handcraft by allowing us to combine more colors in the weaving direction”, explains Ellinor Eliasson, designer at Kasthall Design Studio.
DESSAU'S IMPRINT ON KASTHALL
Ingrid Dessau worked at Kasthall for nearly 25 years, from 1954 to 1978. She loved nature and found most of her inspiration in the beauty of flowers, leaves, water, and stones. And her passion for innovation was just as strong as her love for creation. Dessau always kept an open mind to new ideas about developing Kasthall's visual language or exploring the latest weaving techniques. Her ability to blend the old with the new allowed her to create unique designs that stood out. Ingrid's work captured the essence of beauty and artistry through her natural inspiration or innovative approach.
